Sputnik, Inc.
Sputnik, Inc. solves the "last acre" bandwidth problem by enabling high-speed wireless Internet connectivity based on the rapidly growing 802.11 standard. Sputnik offers 802.11 access point software and services that enable automated set-up, user authentication, cross-gateway roaming, bandwidth shaping, usage tracking, content caching and remote gateway management. The Sputnik Gateway routes network traffic instead of bridging it, resulting in lower security risk. User authentication is handled via a Web browser so no special client is required. The Sputnik Gateway includes a built-in firewall, interoperates with a corporate RADIUS server, and works with, but does not require, 802.1x. This adds up to a smart, secure wireless networking and Internet access solution for business. To encourage widespread adoption, Sputnik will make the software downloadable for free by end users, and publish it under an open-source license.
